Military Appreciation Month 2022

Members of the U.S. military spend so much of their lives selflessly serving the country, often without us realizing it. When we go about our daily lives, it can be easy to forget how much our service members do to keep the United States safe.

Thankfully, there’s an entire month to say “thank you” to our current and previous military members. Here’s what you need to know about Military Appreciation Month and what you can do to honor military members,

What is Military Appreciation Month?

Formally declared by Congress in 1999, Military Appreciation Month is a period that recognizes military members and their families. May is important for the military because of VE Day, commemorating the end of WWII in Europe.

Along with a few specifically recognized dates, the entire month is dedicated to honoring military personnel. This includes current military members, veterans, and their families.

Take a Moment to Say “Thank You!”

As the name implies, Military Appreciation Month is all about taking a moment to say “thank you.” Since military members spend so much time serving and protecting people within the U.S., it’s important to take a month to show appreciation.

Granted, military personnel should always be thanked for what they do. However, the month of May is a special time to honor current military members and those who sacrificed their lives to protect us.
