Seven Essential Tools You Absolutely Need To Own

Whether you’re a burgeoning handyman or simply interested in doing a job or two around the house, you will need some tools to get you started. However, take it from Toolsy you can’t own just any tools.

There are certain tools you absolutely need and you’ll want for the majority of your odd jobs and projects. Here, we will take a look at seven essential tools you absolutely need to own no matter who you’re or what you have planned.

1. Adjustable Crescent Wrench

In an ideal world, you would own a full set of wrenches – one for every size and purpose. When you are building up your tool collection, though, this can be a lot to ask.

Instead, invest in an adjustable crescent wrench. With an adjustable wrench, you’ll have multiple sizes in one tool so you can complete multiple jobs without having to worry about switching tools.

2. Drill

Another multipurpose tool you should keep around is a drill. With this tool, you can change out the bit and complete a myriad of different jobs.

For instance, you could use it to complete a DIY you’ve been dying to try. You’ll want to make sure you get a variety of bits: not only different sizes but types such as slotted and square-drive bits.

3. Hammer

A hammer is also a great tool to keep around the house. After all, you would be surprised how often it’s useful to be able to drive a nail or use the opposing side to be able to tear nails out.

Want to hang a picture on the wall? Then you’ll need a hammer.

It’s also useful in bigger projects such as tearing apart a pallet and revamp it into something new.

4. Tape Measure

When you are doing any job around the house, you will probably find you need to take measurements. The easiest way to do this is to keep a tape measure handy.

5. Extension Cord

This one isn’t quite a tool in the traditional sense. Regardless, though, you will want to keep an extension cord handy in your toolbox.

An extension cord is great for when you need to use your plug-in tools a little further away from the wall than usual. Additionally, it can be helpful if you simply want a little extra reach when you plug in any other device in your home such as a TV.

6. Level

As the name suggests, a level is used to make sure something is a straight edge or flat surface. As a related tool, you might want a carpenter’s square to ensure 90 degree angles, especially if you’re interested in woodwork.

7. Flashlight

Finally, you will want a flashlight. Once again, this is a multi-purpose item to keep around.

If you’re working somewhere that doesn’t have enough light, you can use the flashlight. In the case of an emergency, though, you also have a flashlight around in case of power outages.
