Five Ways To Bring More Home Organization

Home organization isn’t always an easy task. From kids throwing their shoes and coats on the ground as soon as they get home from school to “quick” trips to Target that end up with a few more un-intentioned purchases.

Our homes tend to become full of stuff we don’t have permanent places for. So, instead of stressing out about all of the stuff your home has accumulated and what in the world you’re going to do with it, take some of these home organizational tips into consideration.

We’re sure you’ll find something that can help you out.

Shoe Stand

Your home is not the only one where shoes tend to congregate at the front door, or all over the living room in some cases… If you don’t have a closet in the entryway of your home and can’t convince the kids to put their shoes in their bedrooms, then maybe a shoe stand is in order.

There are plenty of places you can find inexpensive shoe stands – just do a quick search on Amazon or Walmart. You might even consider making your own if you have some old pallets or scrap wood lying around.

Ottoman

Use a storage ottoman instead of a coffee table in front of the couch in your living room. Instead of letting magazines, blankets, remotes, and anything else pile up on the table, you can place it inside the storage ottoman when you aren’t using it.

Not to mention it adds a comfy place to throw your feet up. Also, it can be a nice accent piece for your home interior, and can even be additional seating if you need it.

Decorative Holders

Does your nightstand, TV stand, kitchen counter, or bathroom counter tend to become covered in small items like jewelry, hair ties, makeup, pens, or other little things that are just lying around? Try picking up some small containers or decorative bowls to hold those things and make your space feel like it’s being used intentionally.

A small bowl on your nightstand can hold your jewelry and bobby pins when you take them out in bed. A rectangular container on the shelf in the entryway or kitchen counter can hold the mail when you walk in the door.

Think of other places in your home where small things tend to pile up and place a container there to help organize the chaos.

Don’t Hide Knick-Knacks

We all have a bunch of misfit items that don’t seem to belong anywhere. A jewelry box your grandmother gave you, that tiny pineapple paperweight you just couldn’t pass up in the dollar section at Target, little figurines you’ve had since you were a child.

Don’t just hide these things, use them! If you don’t have one already, get a tall bookshelf and arrange all of your little knick-knacks on your shelves with your books, vases of flowers, and other decorative pieces.

Let them bring character to your home rather than take up storage space in your closet.

Storage Containers

How many of you have a drawer or cupboard in your kitchen that is full of mismatched plastic food storage containers? If you said you don’t, you’re lying.

Take 15-30 minutes to empty that drawer or cupboard (or both?) and match each container with its lid. Anything without a match you can recycle when you’re done, free up space and keeping you sane the next time you would have tried to find a lid you don’t have.

Stack these contained back in the cupboard and breathe easy knowing you’ll have a bowl and lid that match the next time you need it.
