  • Chronic diarrhea or other gastrointestinal problems.
  • Itchy or inflamed skin with longer healing time.
  • Frequent infections.

Scientists and virologists have predicted a second wave of the COVID 19 infection. Although, no one is sure what it would look like when it happens. However, remaining diligent about safety practices such as wearing a facemask, washing your hands frequently, and practicing social distancing are some of the things you can do to lessen your chances of contracting the coronavirus.

Furthermore, one way to safeguard your health and protect yourself from possible COVID-19 infection is to ensure your immunity remains strong. A strong immune system is your body’s best defense against fighting a virus.

How to Boost your Immune System

There’re natural ways to improve your body’s immunity against infections and disease. They include;

3. Cut down sugar and refined carbs.
4. Give your body extra support by eating healthy balanced meals and make your lunch the heaviest meal of the day.
5. Exercise daily to improve blood circulation.
6. Don’t forget to wash your hands frequently.
7. Keep in touch with family and loved ones.
8. Maintain a healthy weight.

Medical experts advise a daily intake of vitamin D supplements to boost immunity. You can also get vitamin D from direct exposure to sunlight or through foods such as egg yolks, fish liver oils, salmon, tuna, and sardines. Recent studies also suggest vitamin D can help prevent respiratory infections or reduce the severity of them.

Things that Suppress the Immune System

The immune system can be suppressed or compromised by one or a combination of the following.

Lack of Exercise

With regular exercise, blood can move freely around the body, making it easier to fight off infections and germs. Lack of physical activity, on the other hand, can weaken the immune system and expose the body to illnesses.

The quality of your food intake can affect your immunity. Eating or drinking too much sugar weakens the immune system cells that attack bacteria. Likewise, processed foods, refined carbohydrates, and alcoholic beverages can also compromise the immune system.

Alongside exercises, eat more fruits and vegetables rich in nutrients and vitamins. There are numerous foods available that can also boost your immunity, such as garlic, broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, and almonds.

Stress and Anxiety

Stress is part of life, but if it goes on for too long, it weakens the immune system. You may not be able to get rid of stress entirely, but you can slow things down. Anxiety is often caused by stress and also works against immunity.

Ensure you get at least 8 hours of sleep daily. Throw in some workout, meditate and connect with friends and family to blow off steam.

Isolation or Too little Time Outside

By nature, humans are social beings and thrive on interaction and socialization. Spending too little time out and isolating oneself from family and friends can weaken the immune system and even cause depression.
