Five Home Science Experiments You Can Do With Your Kids

ID-100202089If you are looking for something educational and fun to do with your kids, there are some great things you can do right at home. Science experiments are an exciting way to get involved and learn something new, as well as allow kids to explore and have fun while learning.

Make Your Own Ice Cream

This is a favorite with kids. You’ll need ice, salt, sugar, vanilla extract, freezer bags, and milk. In a freezer bag, mix 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Seal the bag, letting all excess air out. Put this bag into another freezer bag, and pour 4 cups of ice and 4 tablespoons of salt inside.

Seal tightly, removing air. Then start shaking! It usually takes between five and ten minutes before the milk mixture starts getting creamy. Open up, discard the ice baggy, and enjoy eating your homemade vanilla ice cream!

White to Bright Color Carnations

This is a great way to teach your kids about how the stem of a flower can soak up water. You will need white carnations, clear vases, and food coloring. Fill up a few vases with water and clip the ends of the carnations to fit.

With help, let your child squeeze drops of food coloring into the vases. Put flowers in each vase and let sit. Everyone will enjoy watching the white petals turn to colorful shades!

Bottled Tornado

Grab a plastic bottle and fill 3/4 with water. You can also add food coloring, a few drops of dish soap, or glitter to make it easier to see. Science Experiment - Tornado in a Bottle

Put cap on tightly, turn upside down, and start quickly spinning the bottle. The water will make a vortex and your child can see what a tornado looks like.

Water and Oil

Take a plastic bottle, filling with water and add some food coloring. Pour in cooking oil to the mix and let your child shake the bottle. They will see the water and oil do not mix, and the color adds a cool effect.

Microscopes

Having your kids look through microscopes can be another great way to do fun science experiments together. There is a large selection of stereo microscopes you could purchase and use to look at flowers, rocks, insects, and much more.

When your child looks through a microscope, they can see how technology and science work together. Your child can discover what makes up a leaf or what an organism looks like.

Show how fun science is and at the same time encourage kids to love exploring and constructing their own learning! Furthermore, doing these science experiments with them will help you bond together as a family.
