Four Fun Outdoor BBQ Ideas For Fathers And Sons

As the summer season begins to heat up, your grill should also be heating up for many outdoor barbeques. If you decide to enlist the help of your son, here are some fun activities you can enjoy during an outdoor barbeque.

Catching Up

Life can get in the way of families participating in regular bonding time. Dealing with work, school, household chores and other obligations can make it difficult for fathers to keep up with everything that’s happening in their son’s life.

When a family barbeque is planned, this is the perfect opportunity for you to take a couple of hours to talk with your son. You can catch up with everything going on with him at work or school and in his personal life.

You may find it’s easier for him to open up to you while you two are grilling food and enjoying a couple of cold sodas in the backyard.

Grilling Lessons

Your son won’t be a kid forever. He’ll grow up to become a man with his own family and home where they’ll enjoy cookouts and family gatherings.

When he gets to this age, lessons he learned from you on how to properly grill food and perform necessary maintenance on his grill will be invaluable. Some companies, like Kitsap Propane, know there are safety measures that should be taken at all times when using propane on an outside barbeque.

These include making sure there’s no hole in the gas line, moving the grill a safe distance away from flammable objects and never leaving the grill lid closed while it’s preheating.

Playing a Sport

Fathers and sons have always bonded over a shared love of sports. Whether your son enjoys baseball, basketball or another type of sport, there’s always room during the family barbeque to have a little fun.

While the meat and sides are grilling, invite your son to toss a baseball or football around for a few minutes. This will provide you both with beneficial exercise.

Also, it will act as a productive way to pass time that would have been spent sitting in front of a grill full of sizzling food. This can help you build an appetite as well, which is always helpful.

Work on the Car

This is a classic way to spend a beautiful day outdoors with your son. While the food is cooking on the grill, take your son to the garage and open up the hood of your car or your son’s car.

Just make sure to regularly go back and check the food to make sure it doesn’t burn. Take this opportunity to explain the major components of the car and how they all interact.

This will become essential knowledge he will need when he’s older. During these fun outdoor activities with your son, don’t forget about the food cooking on the grill.

It’s best to set a timer on your watch or phone to remind yourself to check on the food before it burns.
