Stepdad Wedding

Stepdad Poetry ~ Under A Twilight Sky

A poem from a child to his new stepdad on his stepdad’s wedding day. The poem expresses the child’s fear and uncertainty of the future.

Under a Twilight Sky

Your marriage to my mom unites our lives
Like the twilight unites day and night
Your wedding shall be sweet and beautiful
Like the sky under a setting sun’s changing light

The time of twilight heralds great change
The dark unknown that comes before a new day
Teddy bears and hugs aren’t needed to get through a scary night
Yet I am not too old to be afraid that night will come to stay

Will the days still shine brightly and the nights hold no fear?
The future for our family is too uncertain to assure
I can see you being a great husband and stepdad
I hope our new family will strengthen and endure

Fear is no stranger to times of big change
However night is always followed by light
The hazy twilight followed by dawning insight
I welcome you to our family and believe everything will be all right.
