The Four Best Cities for Raising Teens – End The Eye Rolls

Teenagers aren’t known for their roll-with-the-punches attitudes. You can reduce the whining and eye-rolling if you settle in a city with features and attractions that appeal to your teen. The cities on this list keep kids occupied and offer a safe place to live.

Dallas, Texas

Known for extensive green spaces and teen-friendly entertainment, Dallas, Texas, also enjoys a low crime rate. Destinations like Klyde Warren Park and the Dallas World Aquarium provide teens with safe places to exercise their freedom and hang out with friends.

The excellent school systems and high concentration of entrepreneurs in this city make it the perfect place to raise ambitious teens.

If you hate the idea of bringing up your family in an urban jungle, check out the numerous Dallas suburbs. Highland Park, Southlake, and Murphy, for instance, consistently rank high in “best-of” lists for raising families in a nurturing environment.

Bismarck, North Dakota

Not only does North Dakota fall into the top 13 states to raise girls, according to the Huffington Post, but Bismarck also qualifies as one of the top 10 best places to live in the United States.

Kids love to spend time outdoors, whether they’re exploring the landscape of their own backyards or venturing out into local parks. Over 2,000 acres of green space await within the city limits.

Bismarck is also a civic-minded community, which can help teach kids compassion and responsibility without a heavy hand. Several walk/run marathons take place in Bismarck every year to fund great causes, such as the Relay for Life which benefits the American Cancer Society and Kroll’s Diner Bismarck Marathon an event that supports local charitable organizations.

Omaha, Nebraska

Kiplinger, a publisher of business forecasts, nominates Omaha as one of the best places to raise teens in the United States, thanks to its good schools, extensive library system and many sports fields.

The city also has a well-developed music scene for teens who never stray far from their MP3 players.

Much of the suburban parts of Omaha are highly walkable. It doesn’t take long to get anywhere in the city by car. If your teens have their driver’s licenses, you won’t have to worry as much about handing over the keys thanks to the low car accident rates.

Burlington, Vermont

Teens who love to spend time outdoors will have year-long fun in Burlington, Vermont. This city features excellent summer and winter weather for sports and nature enthusiasts with over 150 acres of wooded parks in which kids can hang out and exercise.

The Fletcher Free Library in Burlington offers more than just books and old newspapers — kids can also gather at the venue for games, such as Magic: The Gathering.

The local fairground hosts several teen-friendly events each year, and Church Street features street performers and interesting shops.

When you find the ideal place to raise your teens, find ways to get them involved in the community. The more they love where they live, the better they perform in school and at home. These four cities are great places to start.
