Of course, there’s the option of hiring help like maids and housekeepers, but that can cost a lot of money, and most families just can’t afford it. A better option would be having your other household members help out in the cleaning process. Your spouse and children can all give a helping hand.
But, without proper organization of who does what and when, things can get chaotic pretty quickly. So to avoid all out chaos, a good idea would be to create a family cleaning schedule. Daily, weekly and monthly chores for every family member. It will help a lot, it will cut down individual cleaning time, and everybody will be happier.
Create A Family Cleaning Schedule
There are some rules you should follow when making your family cleaning schedule. Read about them down below and make sure you stick to them when creating your own schedule.
1. Divide the Schedule into a Few Categories
Daily, weekly and monthly. Put everything that needs to be done around the house in the right category. For example, making the beds is a daily chore, so put it in the daily category. And make sure you don’t miss anything. A tiny mistake, and the house can end up in chaos.
2. Decide on What Family Member Does Which Chore
And write it down, so everybody knows what they have to do. For example, the kids can be responsible for easier tasks, like loading and unloading the dishwasher or making the beds.
3. Prepare the Needed Cleaning Materials
For cleaning, the windows and blinds, there are special rags, cloths and products which will be placed in a certain bucket. For cleaning the bath tub, other tools and products will be used, and kept in a separate bucket. Make sure everybody knows which bucket is theirs.
4. Check the Calendar and See Who is Available When.
Make a schedule according to everyone’s availability, divide it into weekly and monthly clean ups. Of course, daily clean ups are done every day so you don’t have to make a schedule for them.
But, weekly and monthly do require one. Check when everybody is available and write them down to do their chores that day.
5. Have a Family Meeting
Have a family meeting to talk them through everything that needs to be done, and remember to be flexible but with a firm hand. Not everybody might like what needs to be done, but remind them it’s better for everyone.
If somebody doesn’t understand how something needs to be done, for example, they don’t know how to clean blinds or curtains, talk them through it. Show them how it’s done.
