Three Special Ways of Expressing Gratitude
Did you know there is a critical element of happiness that is routinely forgotten about? That when used regularly this ancient concept will result in improved:
- physical health,
- psychological well-being, and
- relationships.
Since 1998, Doctor Robert Emmons, a University of California professor at Davis has been studying gratitude. He is the author of the book, “Thanks! How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier.”
According to Doctor Emmons, regular grateful thinking can increase happiness by as much as 25 percent. Keeping a gratitude journal for just three weeks results in better sleep and more energy.
Hofstra University New York professor, Jeffrey Froh’s, research with more than 1,000 high school students showed grateful teenagers were also less likely to be depressed, more likely to give back to their communities and more likely to have higher grade-point averages, among other traits.
With these kind of benefits you would think everyone would have an attitude of gratitude. Especially when you shouldn’t have to look very hard to find something to be grateful for. Emmons states,
“Gratitude implies humility – a recognition we could not be who we are or where are in life with the contributions of others.”
You can show our gratitude in many ways. Saying, “thank you” is a good start but unfortunately in the majority of instances it has become a mechanical response and that has lost alot of its impact. Here are some alternative ways you can say or should I say communicate, “Thank you.” People appreciate, “Thank you” when its said and done with sincerity.
Sending Flowers
Gratitude can be expressed by sending flowers. Flowers have a natural beauty and lovely fragrance that instantly wins the recipient’s heart. You can say thank you to another by sending them a decorative basket or bouquet of flowers to which will make them happy and excited. This can be a wonderful way to say thank you to a person who have helped you.
Giving a Box of Chocolates
Chocolates are a sweet way to express gratitude. Of course, you can combine flowers and chocolates to say how grateful you are to the other person. At some candy stores you can make a custom box of chocolates filled with the recipient’s favorite toffees and chocolates. The handmade chocolate box may surely be decorated effectively for a nice and attractive appearance bound to impress the person receiving it. Saying thank you by giving a chocolate box would be a sweeter way of expressing gratitude.
Baking a Cake
Another tasty way in which you can say thank you to the another person is by baking a yummy delicious cake. Almost everyone is fond of cakes, especially homemade ones. So a person should bake a cake of the recipient’s favorite flavor.
Cakes can also be combined with a basket of flowers which will add attractiveness to one’s gift. The delicious treat should also be decorated nicely with a thank you message on it which would leave an impact on the recipient of the gift.
The previously mentioned of saying thank you are certainly much better than just saying mere words. They can cheer up people and make them feel more special and even happier.
