Five Great Tips For Making Sure Your Kids Stay Healthy At School

Are you a parent who worries about your child getting hurt or sick at school? If so, you are not alone.

Feeling anxious when your kid is away from home learning is natural. Especially when you aren’t there to help protect them and keep them safe.

Fortunately, there are lots of things you can do to help care for your child while you’re not there.

Here are five tips on what you can do and say to make sure your child stays healthy at school.

Tell Your Child Not to Eat or Drink from Another Child’s Utensils

Instruct your child to never eat from another child’s spoon, fork or cup.

Explain that germs on these items can make them sick.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to prevent contracting and spreading the flu, dishes, as well as utensils that were used by someone with the flu, should be washed before being used by someone else.

Make sure to take the time to teach your kids about things like this before school starts, so they know what to do far ahead of time.

Advise Your Child to Hold on to the Handrail

Let your child know they should always use the handrail when going down stairs. It’s easy to fall down the stairs when you’re not holding on.

Also, tell your child not to play on the steps because it can increase the chance of falling. It’s always important for your kids to watch where they are going especially while they are still growing up.

Tell Your Child to Wash Their Hands Often

Teach your child the importance of hand washing. According to the New York State Department of Health, germs are found on handrails and other things people touch.

Instruct them to keep their hands away from their eyes, nose, and mouth after touching these things because germs can enter their body through these openings.

Give your a child hand sanitizer to use at school.

Advise Your Child to Not Share Items That Might Have Lice

Tell your child not to share brushes, hats, hair accessories, or anything else that comes into contact with someone else’s hair as they could have lice.

Instruct your child to avoid making close head contact with another child’s head.

If your child doesn’t know what lice is, show and tell with the help of the picture of lice on Heartland Healthy Heads online. Educate your kids on the dangers of things like this is one of the very best ways to help prevent it.

Give Your Child a Delicious and Nutritious Lunch

Keep your kid healthy at school with nutritious food for lunch. Make sure it’s food you know your child really likes so it will make its way into their stomach instead of the garbage.

Also include a healthy snack, such as your child’s favorite fruit.

These great tips will keep kids healthy at school and avoid potential problems. Some of them could help keep everyone at home healthy too. They will also give you peace of mind. Just make sure you take the time to do your research and teach your kids all about staying happy and healthy.
