While out walking in my neighborhood I observed a driver who did what we call here on the left coast a California stop. In a California stop, the driver doesn’t come to a complete stop at the stop sign but slows down and rolls through the stop sign.
Much to the driver’s bad luck an observing motorcycle patrolman immediately pulled over the driver. The patrolman approaches the car and the driver, a middle age man, rolls down his window and the following conversation ensues.
Patrolman: “Do you know why I pulled you over?”
Driver: “No.”
Patrolman: “You failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign. You just slowed down and rolled through it. I’m going to have to give you a ticket.”
Driver: “Come on officer give a break. Stop, slow down it’s all the same thing.”
Patrolman: With a look of irritation the patrolman requests the man to get out of his car. He then pulls out his nightstick and begins beating the man with it. He then asks the man, “Do you want me to stop or do you want me to slow down?”
