Key Attributes Of A Quality And Safe Hoverboard

Hoverboards!

Can these little harmless toys that parents buy their kids…burn down houses?

It turns out they can – more than 20 recalls of different brands were done due to fire and/or explosion hazard beginning in 2016.

The problem is real. NBC reports that “All ‘Hoverboards’ Currently on the Market Are Unsafe”.

While I don’t exactly agree with that headline, there’s some truth in it.

I personally reviewed more than 50 hoverboards and found very few of them are actually compliant with the current standards provided by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

So if you think of a hoverboard as a fun gift idea for your kid, please make sure you:

  • First, remember the weight limit. Most of the self-balancing scooters can carry up to 220 lbs (100 kg).
  • Second, and this is important, the ENTIRE hoverboard must be compliant with UL 2272 standard (it doesn’t cut it if only some parts are compliant with it – it must be the entire thing).
  • Third, check if the hoverboard was recalled previously on www.cpsc.gov.

You can find these and other details in the infographic we put together for your information below.

So, are you going to get your kid (or yourself) a hoverboard?
