How To Make Father’s Day Special For Your Stepdad

Father’s Day is a celebration to honor and appreciate fathers and father figures for contributing to their family. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in the UK, Canada, India and some other parts of the world.

For some other countries, it is celebrated at different times of the year, for instance in Australia, this celebration holds on the first Sunday of September. In Norway, Finland and Sweden, it occurs on the second Sunday in November.

Many Catholic countries celebrate Father’s Day on St Joseph’s Day (March 19th)

Father’s Day History

The origin of Father’s Day dates back to the early 1900s with the first known Father’s Day service occurring in July 1908 at the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South in Fairmont, West Virginia

While missing her dad who had passed away in 1896, Mrs. Clayton requested for a Sunday service to honor fathers. Although it was the first service to honor fathers, it did not turn into an annual event.

Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd was credited for being the one to popularize it even though several other people across the country had similar ideas for some years.

After listening to Mother’s day sermon in 1909, she thought it would be nice to honor fathers in the same way. The first Father’s Day in Spokane, Washington was observed on June 19th, 1910 and became an annual event afterward.

Thought Father’s Day celebration was widely recognized, it did not become a permanent national holiday for many years. President Richard Nixon eventually signed a law declaring Father’s day to be annually celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of June.

Being a step parent is a noble thing to do. Yet, many stepdads take the back seat in the lives of their stepchildren on Father’s day. You can make this Father’s day special for your stepfather too.

There are numerous ways to show love on this special day besides giving gifts to your stepdad.

Send a Heartfelt Message

Do not underestimate the power of a heartfelt message to someone you love. There couldn’t be a better time for open communication than on Father’s day. Let your stepdad know how much he has impacted in your life.

If you have a stepdad who plays a significant role in your life, mince no words in telling him how much this means to you. You could get him a card and write a poem on it or attach a handwritten note expressing your gratitude for his presence and contributions to your well being.

If you have a sour relationship with your stepfather, now will be a great time to mend fences.

Spend Time Together

Nothing shows genuine affection and gratitude like making out time to spend with our loved ones. It will mean a lot to your stepdad if you can make out time to spend father’s day with him.

You can take him fishing, bowling or any activity you two will find relaxing and interesting. Besides spending time together and catching up on life, you will also be creating a memory your stepdad can cherish for years to come.

Similarly, you can simply go out to a luncheon with your stepdad and enjoy each other’s company.

 A Customized Gift

Custom made gifts never go out of style. While they are unique and personalized, the engraving makes the gift extraordinary.

It could be anything from a timepiece to a key holder or a mug. Now is the time to get creative and think of something your stepdad will find useful and adore.

A customized gift is perfect for Father’s day celebration and will help you build a stronger connection with your stepdad.

Here are other gifts to show your love and ensure a deeper connection with the special man in your life-your stepdad.
