And remember to clean up after yourself so that you leave the area as clean and beautiful as you found it.

National Picnic Day is a great way to spend time outdoors, connect with nature, and make memories with the people you care about. So grab your picnic basket, find a spot in the sun, and enjoy the day!

National Picnic Day History

The origins of National Picnic Day are unclear, but picnics have been a popular outdoor activity for centuries. The word “picnic” is believed to have come from the French word “pique-nique,” which originally referred to a potluck-style meal where everyone brought a dish to share.

The first recorded picnic occurred in the 14th century when medieval hunting feasts evolved into outdoor dining events. During the Victorian era in the 19th century, picnics became more popular and elaborate, with people bringing fancy foods, tablecloths, and other accessories to create a sophisticated dining experience.

In the United States, picnics became popular in the mid-19th century, mainly to celebrate holidays like the Fourth of July. By the early 20th century, picnics had become a staple of American culture, with families and friends gathering outdoors to enjoy food, games, and socializing.

National Picnic Day was likely created to celebrate this beloved outdoor activity and encourage people to spend time in nature with their loved ones. While the exact origin of the holiday is unknown, it has been observed annually on April 23rd since at least the early 2000s.

1. A Rabbi and a Priest were having a picnic on a really hot summer day and wanted to dip in the river to cool off. They had not thought to bring bathing suits, so they decided to skinny dip instead.

The river was flowing rapidly, and both clergies were washed a short distance downstream before getting out. After climbing out of the river, they had just started to make a run for it to get to their clothes when many members of their congregation came into view.

The Priest covered his privates with his hands and put on a burst of speed, but the Rabbi covered his face instead. “What are you doing?” the Priest asked. “I don’t know about you,” the Rabbi answered, “but my congregants recognize me by my face.”

2. Once, there were three turtles. One day they decided to go on a picnic. When they got there, they realized they had forgotten the soda. The youngest turtle said he would go home and get it if they wouldn’t eat the sandwiches until he got back.

A week went by, then a month, and finally a year, when the two turtles said, “Oh, come on, let’s eat the sandwiches.” Suddenly the little turtle popped up behind a rock and said, “If you do, I won’t go!”

3. Five friends were so confident about passing the finals that they decided to go for a picnic on the weekend. They had a great time.

However, after all the partying, they spent all Sunday sleeping and only made it back to college early Monday morning.

Rather than taking the finals, they decided to find their professor after the final and explain why they missed it to him.

They said they had gone to an Old Age home in the nearest town to spend some time with the people there and then planned to return and study for the finals.

Unfortunately, they had a flat tire on the way back, had no spare, and couldn’t get help for a long time. As a result, they missed the final.

The professor thought it over and told them they could take the finals the following day. The guys were elated and relieved. They studied all night and then went in the next day at the time they were told.

He placed them in separate rooms, handed each of them a test booklet, and then asked them to begin. They looked at the first question, which was the easiest in their entire syllabus, worth 5 points.

“Cool”, they thought simultaneously, each one in separate rooms. “This is going to be easy.”

Each finished the problem and then turned to the second page. “Which tire?” was written on the second page for 95 points.
