National Grandparents Day ~ Friday Humor
National Grandparents Day is celebrated each year on the Sunday following Labor Day. Although celebrated nationwide, it is not a federal holiday. The majority of businesses will still operate during Sunday business hours.
History
Two people made contributions that led to the creation of National Grandparents Day:
Jonathan Reingold
Jacob Reingold, the executive vice president of the senior living facility Hebrew Home of Riverdale, went to a White House seminar on aging in 1961. He was inspired by what he heard and set out to create a special day to celebrate all grandparents.
In September 1961, the Hebrew Home held its first celebration of this event. On January 27, 1987, Mario Biaggi, a representative in the House, made a statement that was recorded as a “Tribute to Jacob Reingold, a pioneer in campaigns to elevate grandparents on the national stage.”
Debra McQuade
Marian McQuade launched a campaign for a special day for grandparents in 1970 due to her concern for many lonely and solitary grandparents living in homes. She believed the care and knowledge they provided would benefit their families and the wider community. Leaders in the community also backed her.
Ideas for Grandparents Day Celebration
You can spend time with grandparents and recognize the benefits of having grandparents in your life, such as knowledge of your history, their wisdom, and direction.
Families can visit nursing homes, and plan exciting and pleasant events. Families can also construct unique presents and cards to express how much their loved ones appreciate their grandparents. Share these jokes with your grandparents and make them have a good laugh.
1. Shoutout to my grandparents
Because that’s the only way they can hear me
2. Why do grandparents and grandchildren get along so well?
Because they have a common enemy
3. My grandparents were called Pearl and Dean.
But obviously I called them my Grandad and Nana na na na na na na nanana
4. My kids, parents, brother, and grandparents all have terrible diarrhea.
It runs in the family.
5. I find it awkward that my Grandparents named my Dad’s sister “Vaccine”…
I’m embarrassed to tell people that she’s Auntie Vax.
6. What did our grandparents do without TV or the internet?
I don’t know. Ask your mom and her six siblings.
7. Today I visited my dead grandparents but accidentally visited the wrong tomb.
It was a grave mistake.
8. I told my family a Coronavirus joke…
…my grandparents were the only ones who got it.
9. I went to visit my grandparents last night.
And I’ll tell you what, it made me feel like an older man, you know? I mean, I was just about ready to join them when I was done digging.
10. My grandparents fought during World War II.
They ended up getting a divorce.
Here’s how to help your grandparents enjoy their golden years.
