National Chili Day ~ Friday Humor
National Chili Day is observed on the 4th Thursday in February every year. It is no coincidence that it falls during the chilly winter season and is marked with hot chili delicacies. Spicy dishes are made with everyday ingredients such as mincemeat, tomatoes, onion, garlic and chili peppers, etc.
These recipes have varying levels of popularity. The popularity of some of these dishes has led to a state-wide competition to choose the ultimate chili recipe.
Background
National Chili Day was invented by the Hard Times Café in Arlington Rich Kelly in 2006. It quickly spread across the U.S and is celebrated annually by all Chili lovers.
Chili is famous amongst Mexican cuisines but is rooted in Spanish and Native American cuisines. And today, chili is the official dish in Texas State.

10. Bowl of Chili (from Jackie the Joke Man)
A guy walks into a diner and sits down at the counter. A waitress comes up to him and asks, “What’ll ya have?”
He sees a sign on the wall for a hot bowl of chili for $5. He asks the waitress for a bowl of chili.
“I’m sorry,” she says, “but I just sold the last bowl to the gentleman sitting next to you.” She then hands a menu to the man, and he looks it over. As he does, he notices the guy sitting next to him, getting ready to leave. He also sees the bowl of chili still sitting on the counter, practically untouched.
“Hey buddy,” the man says, “are you going to finish that chili?” So the man asks if he can have it. The man says no.
“Sure,” he says, and he slides the bowl over. The man takes a spoonful of chili from the bowl and tastes it. Then a second spoonful. He then pushes his spoon down to the bottom of the bowl but feels something. He uses the spoon and dishes out a dead mouse. The sight of the mouse made him feel sick, and he puked the chili back into the bowl.
The man who was leaving then said to the guy, “Yeah, that’s as far as I got, too.”
