- Forklift Truck: These vehicles are for special purposes and fall in the forklift body type in which roadworthy certificates become necessary.
- Private Cars: Private cars, including electrically powered, should be certified within six years of their manufacturing date. Before the approval, a proper part check is important.
- Motorcycles: Proper checking of motorcycles and getting a roadworthy certificate is necessary for safety purposes and to avoid any road situation that can be dangerous. A thorough inspection of the bike is done before acquiring a roadworthy certificate which includes:
- Inspection of the starting and stopping capacity.
- The condition of tire inflation is examined.
- Activation of turn indicators, beam lights, and headlight test.
- Examining the condition of mirrors, seats, and handgrips.
Motor Tricycles: These vehicles also need a roadworthy certificate. Like motorcycles, they also require a part check before getting the certificate.
Cost of Getting a Roadworthy Certificate
The cost or expenses regarding getting a roadworthy certificate varies from place to place. It depends on the state or territory you live in and the level of inspection done to get the certificate.
Few vehicles do not require roadworthy certificates. They are:
- New Vehicles: A roadworthy certificate is not necessary if you are buying new vehicles. However, it becomes mandatory to get the certificate with time, tear, and wear.
- Trailers: Brand new trailers whose ATM is below 4.5 tonnes do not require the Certificate.
- Special purpose Vehicles: Certain special purpose vehicles do not require roadworthy certificates necessary for the safety of common people. It saves many from accidents and unfortunate events. It also ensures that only fit vehicles are hitting the roads.

It’s nice that you pointed out how private cars, including electrically powered ones, should be certified within six years of their manufacturing date. I just heard about roadworthiness and it made me think about our own car. We should probably ask for roadworthy inspections since our car is no longer new.

So I would like to know if you go to a center for checking the vehicle and a fault is found e.g new wheels are needed, do I still pay and come again to do another check and pay for that as well?
