Merry Christmas 2020 – A Poorly Wrapped Gift
I was handed my gift from under the tree, I couldn’t help but notice the chrome (silver duct tape) wrapped around the paper. Also, I saw how the wrapping paper didn’t completely cover the box.
Mentally I could have easily discounted the gift based on its appearance but I looked at the gift card and saw it was from my toddler son. My thoughts turned to who the gift was from and how I would cherish whatever was inside.
Over two thousand years ago the world was given a most precious gift but because of the circumstances – how it was presented, many of us missed its significance.
- A suspicious pregnancy – the world’s first and only virgin birth.
- Earthly parents who would be considered common at best and far from royalty.
- The birth took place in a stable and it’s associated animals and smells on the outskirts of town.
- The baby was placed in a manger or trough where the horses and cattle fed from.
Yet it was under these humble conditions God gave us his one and only son, Jesus. The apostle John wrote,
If you missed this gift it’s not too late to receive it. It’s as simple as sincerely repeating the following prayer.
I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
