Five Outdoor Activities For A Dad And Son

A pleasant weather means you might want to find more ways to soak up quality time with your son. For all of you loving fathers, there’re different great options to consider. No matter your interests, there’re numerous outdoor activities for a dad and son.

Here are some suggestions you both might enjoy. These fun activities will ensure you get in enough quality time this spring.

1. Fly-Fishing

Fishing has long been a pastime fathers and sons have come to love. When you go fishing, you get some peace and quiet, but you also get to enjoy some adventure together. No matter your skill or experience level, fishing is a perfect activity for spring.

If you are looking for a cool fishing destination to visit together, you could look into Canada fly-in fishing trips. You can book excursions just for you, or you can participate in organized instruction and group outings.

2. Gardening

You may think gardening would be something your son wouldn’t enjoy, but he might. Not only can you and your son ensure your yard looks great, but you can also teach your son important life lessons about caring for investments. And for all of you married dads out there, your wives will probably appreciate your efforts, too.

If you do not have a lawn, you should look into community gardens. You can still teach your son how to care for things and the rewards of nurturing. Don’t forget you can always head to a local farm to make sure your son knows about how things grow.

3. Baseball Games

Your son does not have to be an athlete or even show interest in the sport. You can still enjoy this cherished pastime. Sure, if your son is into baseball, you could help his baseball team and take part in all of the different dad roles, even coaching. Your son could wear his favorite jersey and head out with you to see his favorite team, too.

But when there is no interest in the sport, your son can still have a great time with you watching live baseball games. If all goes as planned, COVID-19 will not impact the start of the MLB season for longer than a few weeks.

Once you get to the ballpark, you have more than just the game to keep you entertained. MLB parks come with all the bells and whistles today to ensure a great time can be had by anyone. And if heading to an MLB park is not doable, minor league games can be fun, too.

4. Festivals

Many communities have street festivals in the Spring, and you should look into your options. When you and your son head to a street festival, some of the things you could enjoy are cool crafts, funky art, live music, fun games, and all kinds of great food.

And if you and your son enjoy going to concerts, you can look into spring music festivals. Spring is a perfect time to enjoy outdoor concerts. When you head to a spring music festival you get to jam out to more than one band, too. Of course, depending on the age of your child, some music and festival experiences might not be appropriate.

5. Volunteer Work

Have you considered volunteering in your local community? Ideas for two of you to consider are nonprofits, retirement homes, and neighborhood clean up projects. Think about what your son enjoys and what your son needs to learn. You can take on volunteer work just the two of you or through larger volunteer outreach efforts.

Also, consider the pressing needs of your community. Because when you and your son roll up your sleeves to volunteer your time, you are helping those in need.

As you prepare to get the most out of this spring, be cognizant of ways you can be more involved in your son’s life. One way to do this is by scheduling some quality-father son time. Any of the five ideas could work for you, and your son will appreciate your efforts.
