How To Make Stepmother’s Day Unforgettable For Your Stepmom

Many children in blended families often feel torn about being with their biological moms on Mother’s day and neglecting their stepmoms. Step mother’s day is a day to honor and appreciate the unique relationship between a stepmom and her step kids.

Origin Of Stepmother’s Day

Step mother’s day celebration has been observed since 2000. It was created by nine-year-old Lizzie Capuzzi from Pennsylvania who wanted to celebrate her stepmom, Joyce.

After deciding it should be celebrated the Sunday after mother’s day, Lizzie and Joyce sent a letter to Senator Rick Santorum to let him know. It was made part of the congressional record after Rep. Santorum brought it before Congress.

Mother’s day makes some stepmoms feel awkward. Likewise, many have admitted to also feeling a little sad during mother’s day celebrations when their step kids are with their biological moms. Even though this is rightfully expected, it is bound to make a stepmom feel left out.

Stepmoms too deserve to be honored for the contributions they bring to their families. Their participation in raising kids who are not biologically theirs and doing so with patience and understanding is commendable.

If you have a stepmom in your life, you should appreciate her for her love and care every day and especially on step mother’s day. You can show this love in several small or big ways.

More important is the intent behind your gift. So, whichever way you decide to celebrate your stepmom, let it radiate the gratitude and love you feel for her.

Here are some ways to let her feel loved on her day.

Express your Thanks

Let your stepmom know you are thankful for her presence in your life. For all the ways she toughs it out for your family with patience and devotion.

Being a mom is hard, but being a stepmom and caring for their husband’s children as they would their biological kids is a harder job. So, thank her in all the ways you can.

Let Her Know She’s Important

You may not live full time with your stepmom, but you can still let her know she matters and how much you appreciate her contributions. You can send her a card expressing your heartfelt gratitude for the part she plays in your life.

Also, helping her out with some chores or pampering her on stepmom’s day can make her feel appreciated. If you are aware of some of the things she loves or will be interested in, you can send her a gift related to it.

Create New Memories

Calling or visiting your stepmom can also brighten her day and make her feel warmly thought of. Many typical mothers day activities will be appreciated by your stepmom as well. From sending flowers or gift cards to breakfast in bed, a lunch date, or a spa treat.

A Photo Album

It holds fond memories, highlights special family times and is a timeless gift, one to be cherished for a lifetime. More so, anyone would be thrilled to see the thoughts and efforts that were put into their gift.

You can decide to create a photo album the old fashioned way or go with the trend by creating a digital one. Both will serve the same purpose, and your stepmom will value it for years to come.

Whichever way you end up spending this day with your stepmom, remember to treat her with admiration, gratitude, and respect for her unique role in your life.

Like moms, stepmoms have a vital role to play in her stepchild’s life. Here is a famous stepmom who impacted positively on her stepson.
