Never Too Late to Be Kind
Did you know this week was National Kindness Awareness Week and this past Wednesday was National Random Acts of Kindness Day? I didn’t know till Wednesday. I was especially disappointed because I was a mean SOB until then – just kidding. 😉 It’s Friday and the week is nearly over.
I believe you’ll find this video particularly inspiring especially if you’re a stepparent.
As you watch the video instead of seeing a world class sprinter at the starting line imagine it’s your family. The starter yells, “On your mark, get set.” “Bang” the starting gun goes off and they begin the race. Your family is cruising along the track of life.
Suddenly out of nowhere they find themselves hobbled and pulling up lame. Not due to a pulled hamstring but because of a divorce or the death of a parent. The family that begun the race is no more.
Then you come on the track. Maybe as the father in the video you had to force your way onto the track. Perhaps you had to overcome opposition from “well-meaning” family, friends or even an ex who wasn’t supportive of your decision to marry a man or woman with children.
They feel it’s a mistake to get involved in the drama. Yet you’re driven by love and determination to come alongside your family to help them finish the race.
What you don’t notice is the ovation you are receiving. You have done a selfless, kind thing and even though you may never receive the applause or even thanks you’re deserving of, it doesn’t diminish the praiseworthy role you’ve played and continue to play in the lives of your blended family. Keep on keeping on.
Very inspiring. Well worth the read, thank you so much for making my Monday start out with a smile 🙂
Hi Joyce
