“Doesn’t she do well?”
“After all she’s been through”
“She does her best”
“And it’s good enough”
I’m not going to tell you
You’re good enough.
How sad it is
That you had it tough.
You’re probably tired
Of hearing that
The pursing smile.
The sympathy pat.
I’m not going to whisper
conspirationally
That it’s all OK
Then leave you be.
I’d rather be honest
And let you know
How I really feel
So here goes.
When I see you
I see.
So much.
Your depth of heart
and delicate touch
I don’t just see
a single mom
I see much more
You’re fine, you’re strong.
You’re more than that
Adaptable and fine
The selfless way
You give your time
Who you are
And what you do
Like all of us
Is complex too
It’s simple though
At least for today
I think that’s what
I’m trying to say
You’re so much more
than a single mom.
You’re the woman that
made my world undone
You’re a tender whisper
In a noisy room
You’re the one I miss
Will you come home soon?
A burst of rain
On a boiling day
The girl I love
Come out to play
You’re a strong cup of coffee
At the start of the day
You’re fresh linen sheets
When it’s time to hit the hay
You give so much.
With all you do.
I’d like the chance
To look after you.
I singled you out
from the very start.
I’m yours to keep,
you have my heart.
I would not give my
heart to anyone
Only my favorite
single mom.
