Nine DIY Projects Your Yard Is Begging For

Are you ready for some seriously stunning DIY projects to complement your beautifully landscaped yard? Any of these nine projects will definitely have you loving the outdoors all summer long.

Tree-ring Stools

If you’re planning to remove any dead or dying trees, or just hoping to thin out the foliage, save a section of a fat, sturdy trunk to make outdoor stools. Slice a few cross-sections, then sand and stain them.

Make them tall or short, for feet or bottoms and everyone will admire the varied tree rings.

Wood Pallet Table

Many outdoor tables are manufactured and seem a better fit for a casual dining room. If you have access to a few used wood pallets, you can make something meant for the outdoors that is just as stunning.

Pallets can be broken down easily to fit any number of designs, but you can also build something blocky and sturdy without too much deconstruction.

Dresser Bench

This may be the coolest project you ever take on. You can take any available size dresser and restructure it into a durable bench for the back patio.

With a beautiful stain or some fun, durable paint, everyone will be trying to get this seat.

CD Mosaic Tile

Whether it’s for a bird bath, coffee table, or decorative wall piece, you can smash some old CDs and create an amazing mosaic tile that will look beautiful by sun or firelight.

You can use either a mosaic glue or grout to position the pieces, then fill in the spaces between and you’re all ready to go.

Tire Rim Firepit

Don’t have a firepit to show off that mosaic at night? Use your old tire rims to make it happen!

There are a lot of different designs you can use with this. If you want to keep it simple, work with one rim, maybe cut some designs into the sides and clear a space of grass where you can roast marshmallows.

If you want less of an open flame, try out a wood-furnace-style design.

Terraced Cinder Block Garden

I’m not sure where all those extra cinder blocks come from, but they usually get piled against the house (in a corner, if there is one) and gather dirt. Make that set up work for you by building them into a terrace and filling them with your favorite flowers.

And that eyesore? Now it’s a major feature of your yard.

Solar Light Fixture

Looking for something more elegant for your outdoor evening party? If you have a striking light fixture without a home, work your magic to install some cheap solar lights in it then hang the whole thing up to set the mood.

You may have the perfect spot for it already, or this may give you an excuse to craft an awning or arbor to go with it.

Tire-totter

By this point, the kids might be feeling a little left out, so why not create a fun new toy for the yard? You’ve already used the old tire rims, now you can use the actual tires.

Cut one in half and join up a few boards, then add a coat of paint with the kids’ help. They’ll have a fun mini teeter-totter that is easy for you to move around when it’s time to mow the lawn.

Wine Bottle Privacy Screen

If you have space under an awning that is prone to welcoming in the elements or the eyes of nosy neighbors, save up your glass bottles and string them into a columned wall that will provide some cover without blocking out nature completely.

This will be truly unique to you and will require some rebar and a few extra materials for the frame.
