New Year’s Eve ~ Friday Humor

New Year’s Eve is celebrated on the 31st of December every year. It is a big event in the U.S and other parts of the world. Although it is not a federal holiday, most businesses work a half-day or take the day off.

People travel to spend this day and usher in the New Year with families and friends. For this reason, there’s often congestion and closed roads on New Year’s Eve.

How to Celebrate New Year’s Eve

Traditionally, the last day of the year is a time for celebrations, family gatherings, and parties. Families and friends gather to count down the last few seconds of the year and toast to the New Year.

Several traditions and practices are believed to bring luck in the New Year. For instance, eating pork can bring good luck since pigs are plump and move forward while digging. These features represent prosperity and advancement in the coming year.

Cabbage also represents prosperity, and cake, champagne, and black-eyed peas are lucky foods. Have you ever wondered why there’s so much whistleblowing and fireworks on New Year’s Eve? It is supposed to chase bad luck away.

Religious observances are not left out as protestant churches hold watch night services to pray and usher in the New Year. Some Catholics also go to Mass on New Year’s Eve.

Regardless of your plans for New Year’s Eve, remember to spend it in love and thanksgiving. Don’t forget to also extend a hand of kindness to others. Enjoy our last jokes and puns for 2021.
