Happy Stepmother’s Day 2022

May means Mother’s Day, and stepmothers deserve a day too. It can be complex for families that have mothers and stepmothers in their lives.

Will the children offend their biological mother when they also celebrate their stepmom on Mother’s Day? Thankfully, we have a day set aside for stepmoms in the US! Stepmother’s Day is celebrated the Sunday following Mother’s Day. This year it falls on Sunday, May 15th, 2022.

Here are a few reflections about stepmoms in honor of Stepmothers Day.

We See You

Becoming a stepmother may be a gradual process but can also feel very sudden. There is no baby shower or months full of excitement and anticipation surrounding new moms. Yet, you are becoming a new mom.

The title signifies and initiates a dynamic shift in life that can often feel lost in the shuffle. Even if you have children already, a new child is entering your life in a new way when you become a stepmom. The transition to stepmother happens in the blink of an eye.

Please know that we see you!

We Appreciate You

Being a stepmother is hard. Thanks to popular movies and books, your new stepmom role comes with a built-in negative stigma – Another challenge to navigate as you jump into step-motherhood.

As a stepmom, you do all the “regular mom” things from worrying to wiping. You taxi kids from place to place, wash sweaty sports clothes, and help everyone with homework. You kiss booboos and help mend broken hearts.

Please know that we appreciate you.

We Love You

There are days when you wonder if the love is reciprocal. You give love, and you are loved. You’re loved for who you are and how you are. You create space in your life and heart for children you did not give birth to. Your love as a stepmother is a leap of faith every day, an intentional choice.

Please be aware that we love you.

Stepmother’s Day

Established in 2000, Stepmothers Day was officially written into the US Congressional Record. This happened thanks to a young stepdaughter who wanted to honor her stepmom.

She was so passionate about all stepmoms deserving a day of recognition that she wrote to her State Senator to share her idea, and he loved it! Although it is not a widely recognized holiday, it warrants more attention.

We are happy to have a day just for you, stepmoms!

We see you, we appreciate you, and we love you!

Happy Stepmother’s Day!
