Research has shown kids generally learn more through their observations and experience in the world than through teaching by words. In turn, parents should teach their children more through the things they do and the examples they set.
Rather than tell them how to do things, parents should first show how it should be done. Also, when parents make mistakes, they own up to them and acknowledge their shortcomings.
There’s no need to pretend to be perfect or act like it. Parents must show their kids their humanity and not portray themselves as something they’re not.

Responsible parents understand the importance of meting out appropriate discipline when necessary. They also understand the value of praise for good deeds.
Getting a gift for your little boy or girl after doing a good job goes a long way in teaching them what acts they should engage in and which ones they should avoid. In addition, responsible parents are able to clearly discern how much correction or praise is suited to an occasion and avoid over-emphasizing issues.

Parents have the responsibility to build confidence in their kids. The foundation for a child’s self-confidence is laid by the encouraging and motivating words of the parents.
On the other hand, constant criticism erodes the self-esteem of kids and demoralizes them. It can also result in withdrawal and secretiveness on the part of the kids.
Conversely, constant appreciation and encouragement of the good qualities and children’s strengths exude positivity and confidence. When their kids don’t meet their expectations, responsible parents do not engage in the comparision of their kids with other kids.
Rather than make their kids feel inferior, they affirm their value and individuality and condemn the behavior instead of the person.

Reports suggest the quality of time that parents spend with their kids matters more than the quantity of time they spend. Quality time promotes the development of a parent-child bond that enhances understanding.
During such periods, kids and parents engage in healthy dialogues that improve their relationship. Such conversations bring about the feeling of worth and importance in the children seeing their views are being heard.

Responsible parents don’t pretend to be with their kids when they actually are not. Whenever they are available for their kids, they dedicate all their attention to them.
