World Logic Day ~ Friday Humor

The 14th of January is celebrated as “World Logic Day” each year. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared the day a national holiday on the 26th of November, 2019.

The aim is to raise awareness of the conceptual significance of logic, practical applications, and intellectual history among the general public and the scientific communities. 1. A professor in a Logic class says, “Alright, class, if you know what ‘affirming the consequent’ means, then raise your hand.”

A student raises her hand.

The Professor says, “Ah, yes. You know what it is?”

The student says, “No, why would you think so?”

2. After failing his Logic exam, a student confronts his lecturer about it.

Student: “Sir, do you understand anything about the subject?”

Professor: “Surely I must. Otherwise, I would not be a professor!”

Student: “Great, well then, I would like to ask you a question. If you can give me the correct answer, I will accept my grade as is and go. If you do not know the answer, I want you to give me an ‘A’ for the exam. “

Professor: “Okay, it is a deal. So what is the question?”

Student: “What is legal but not logical, logical but not legal, and neither logical nor legal?”

Even after some long and hard consideration, the professor cannot give the student an answer, and therefore changes his exam mark into an ‘A,’ as agreed.

Afterward, the professor calls on his best student and asks him the same question.

He immediately answers: “Sir, you are 63 and married to a 32-year-old woman, which is legal but not logical. Your wife has a 21-year-old lover, which is logical but not legal. The fact that you have given your wife’s lover an ‘A,’ although he really should have failed, is neither legal nor logical.”

3. An 86-year-old man went to his doctor for his quarterly check-up…

The doctor asked the man how he was feeling, and the 86-year-old said, “things are great, and I’ve never felt better! I now have a 20-year-old bride who is pregnant with my child. What do you think about that, doc?”

The doctor considered the question for a minute and began telling a story.

“I have an older friend, like you, who is an avid hunter and never misses a season. One day he was setting off to go hunting. He accidentally picked up his walking cane instead of his gun in a bit of a hurry.”

“As he neared a lake, he came across a large male beaver sitting at the water’s edge. He

realized he had left his gun home so he couldn’t shoot the magnificent creature. Out of habit, he raised his cane, aimed it at the animal as if it was his favorite hunting rifle, and yelled ‘bang bang.’ Miraculously, two shots rang out, and the beaver fell dead.”

“Now, what do you think of that?” asked the doctor.

The 86-year-old replied, “logic would strongly suggest that somebody else pumped a few rounds into that beaver.”

The doctor replied, “my point exactly.”
