Global Forgiveness Day – Friday Humor

On the 7th of July every year, Global Forgiveness Day is marked to create awareness of the healing power of forgiveness. This day presents an opportunity to heal oneself and find peace in forgiveness.

History and Importance of Global Forgiveness Day

In 1993, Desmond Tutu participated in a peace march in South Africa. The march brought the realization of the importance of forgiving. Afterward, Tutu started discussing the act of forgiveness at events. Not long after, people got interested and started celebrating this day.

Forgiveness also positively impacts our mental health and can reduce anxiety, anger, and depression. Let this observance remind you that forgiveness is just as important for you as it is for the person you forgive.

1. A nun gave little Mary a long talk on sin, prayer, and forgiveness.

When she finished the lesson, she asked little Mary, “What do we have to do before we ask the Lord for forgiveness?”

Little Mary Confidently said, “Sin.”

2. A man buys a parrot and brings him home.

But the parrot starts insulting him and gets really nasty, so the man picks up the parrot and tosses him into the freezer to teach him a lesson. He hears the bird squawking for a few minutes, but suddenly the parrot is quiet. The man opens the freezer door, the parrot walks out, looks up at him, and says, “I apologize for offending you, and I humbly ask your forgiveness.”

The man says, “Well, thank you. I forgive you.”

The parrot then says, “If you don’t mind my asking, what did the chicken do?”

3. When I was just a little kid, I used to pray for a bicycle. Then as I grew older, I learned in Sunday school that that’s not how prayer works.

So I stole a bike…and prayed for forgiveness.

4. The U.S. just passed the student loan forgiveness act!

We’re now required to forgive the government for our student loan debt.

5. On their 40th wedding anniversary and during the banquet celebrating it, Tom was asked to give his friends a brief account of the benefits of a marriage of such a long duration…

“Tell us, Tom, just what is it you have learned from all those wonderful years with your wife?”

Tom responds, “Well, I’ve learned that marriage is the best teacher of all. It teaches you loyalty, forbearance, meekness, self-restraint, forgiveness –and a great many other qualities you wouldn’t have needed if you’d stayed single.”

Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness- Marianne Williamson
