Employee Appreciation Day ~ Friday Humor

Employee Appreciation Day is celebrated on the first Friday of March to recognize employees for their dedication and hard work to their jobs. This celebration also presents an opportunity to foster stronger relationships between employees and employers.

Recognition of talents and strong abilities can increase productivity, which eventually benefits the companies. Bosses who understand the importance of appreciating employees and motivating them can do so on Employee Appreciation Day. Although it isn’t a public holiday, many employers give their staff time off on this day to participate in bonding activities with their colleagues.

History of Employee Appreciation Day

It is believed that the founder of Recognition Professional International, Bob Nelson came up with the idea for this holiday. Nelson believed it was important for employers to appreciate their workers and make them feel valued. And it appeared in a calendar published by Workman Publishing in 1995.

Gifts, a meal treat, a day out to play sports, or other fun activities are some of the ways companies appreciate their staff on Employee Appreciation Day. Enjoy some jokes on employees.

1. A company owner was asked a question, “How do you motivate your employees to be so punctual?”

He smiled & replied, “It’s simple. I have 30 employees and 29 free parking spaces. One is paid parking.”

2. An employee asks his boss, “Can I have two weeks off for Christmas?” His boss replied, “It’s May…”, to which the employee responded,

“Oh, sorry. May I have two weeks off for Christmas?

3. My boss is going to fire the employee with the worst posture

I have a hunch, it’s going to be me.

4. An employee was drinking on the job

His boss saw him and said, “Hey, you can’t be drinking while you are working!”

The employee said, “but I’m not working.”

They both laughed, and then he got fired.

5. The employees at my bank are soo nice these days!

Occasionally they would call me and remind me that my loans have been outstanding!

6. A boss calls a meeting to discuss employees taking sick days when they aren’t sick.

He had suspected that this had been happening, but he finally had his proof. He held up a copy of the newspaper. There was an article about an employee, who had supposedly been sick, winning a golf tournament in the sports section.

“Wow,” said someone in the back. “Imagine the score he could’ve gotten if he wasn’t sick.”

7. Concerned when one of his most reliable workers doesn’t show up, the boss calls the employee’s home.

A giggling child answers the phone.

“Is your dad home?” the boss asks.

“Yes.”

“May I speak to him?”

“No.”

“Well, can I speak to your mom?”

“No, she’s with the policeman.”

Alarmed, the boss says, “Gosh. Well then, may I speak with the policeman?”

“No. He’s busy talking to the man in the helicopter that’s bringing in the search team.”

“My Lord!” says the boss, now really worried. “What are they searching for?”

“Me.” the kid chortles.

8. My company recently had to let go of an overweight employee

he didn’t work out.

9. An employee at the cookie factory fell into the dough mixing vat.

It looks like he’s going to make it, but he was badly battered.

10. After five months on the job, a new employee believes he deserves a huge raise and decides to ask his boss.

“And how much of a raise do you want?” asks his boss.

“I’m thinking an extra $10,000 a year,” says the employee.

The boss nods. “Sounds about right. And what would you say to a package of ten weeks vacation, 20 paid holidays, and a company car leased every two years, say, a silver Cadillac?”

The employee sits up straight. “Wow!” he says. “Are you kidding?”

*”Yes, but you started it.”

Employees who believe that management is concerned about them as a whole person – not just an employee – are more productive, more satisfied, more fulfilled – Anne M. Mulcahys.
