Stepdad Poetry ~ From Your Stepchildren

Lilly Babineau's Poem For Stepparents

From Your Stepchildren

We give you the cold shoulder
And act like we don’t care
It’s not that we don’t like you
We just don’t want to share

Our mom has been our rock
Since our dads left us alone
She’s worked hard to raise us right
When he won’t even answer the phone

When you came around, things changed
And two families become one
Our mom was spending time with you
Our quality time was done.

We told you that we hated you
And gave you lots of trouble
We kicked and screamed and threw a fit
If you tried more, it would double

But you helped us with our homework
Took us on family trips
Soon, we didn’t mind so much
And away went our quips.

You showed us kindness and took the time
To teach us right from wrong
It took us a while to realize
That you loved us all along.

Now we are a family,
And at the end of the day,
You still are part of our lives
And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

~ Lilly Babineau
