Three Ways To Bond With Your Partner

It’s official—going out on a date with your spouse strengthens your relationship, as found in a study carried out on almost 10,000 couples by the Marriage Foundation. Couples who make time for each other (without the kids!) are significantly more likely to stay together. And couples who go out once a month or less are less likely to split up than those who rarely date.

The study also showed that you don’t have to go out often to reap these benefits. By looking forward to a date night once in a while, you can keep the flames of passion burning and enjoy the undivided attention of your partner. Below, are a few ways to bond with your partner and effectively put you and your partner “in the mood for love.”

1. Couples Spa Visits

Couple’s massage experiences have come a long way since they began their impressive rise in popularity. Today, many spas have features that take this experience to the next level. For instance, luxury spas often have a private Jacuzzi and shower, as well as aromatherapy and color therapy features.

Massage therapy has been found to reduce stress, improve vascular function, and relieve muscle soreness. This enables couples to enjoy some “me time” in a relaxing space. It, therefore, puts you in the right state to let the romance live on when you get back home.

2. Reconnecting through Yoga

Research by a team at the Loyola University Health System has found that partner yoga can improve the sex lives of couples. It can also rid relationships of negative energy and help them become comfortable with touch and intimacy.

The closeness that arises from performing asanas alongside (and with the help of) your loved one can lessen the distance and negative feelings that can sometimes find their way into relationships. Check out what local yoga studios and outdoor yoga teachers offer. And go for a class with your spouse when you both have a free moment.

3. Organize Double Dates

Dates don’t have to be an occasion for two. One of the best ways to bond with your partner is to go on double dates. The Society for Personality and Social Psychology has found that going on a double date can be even more effective at igniting the spark of passion than a classic dinner date for two.

The research showed that making friends with other couples and discussing personal details can help you perceive your partner in a new, more favorable light. Indeed, positive perception is invaluable in a relationship. A healthy social life is positive for your relationship, as is taking part in novel experiences.

If you haven’t been able to organize a “date night” because you’re busy being a great stepdad to your kids, try to squeeze a night out on the town with your partner or spouse. Consider an activity that has a calming effect on your mood or one that involves closeness and intimacy by its very nature.

Once in a while, invite friends along. It may just help you notice new, positive things about your partner that will make you appreciate them even more.
