Proud & Loving Stepdad Russell Wilson

Serious conversations about the great NFL quarterbacks usually include Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson. Russell is an exceptional athlete that set the stage on fire since joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2012.

In his first two years as a quarterback, Russell won more regular-season games as a starter than any other quarterback in NFL history. In 2013, Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to a dominating 43-8 victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Under Russell’s talent and leadership, the Seahawks became the first defending champion to return to the Super Bowl since the 2004 Patriots. They faced the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, where they lost by a final score of 28 – 24.

Russell is a devout Christian. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at age 14 when Jesus appeared to him in a dream about his dad’s eventual passing. Russell has made his mark in his life both on and off the field.

He attributes his success to his faith in God. Russell picked the number 3 to honor the Holy Trinity. He is also one of the most charitable athletes in the world.

He founded the Why Not You Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to education, children’s health, and fighting poverty, empowering today’s youth to lead with a why not you attitude. Eight years after he made his first trip to Seattle’s Children Hospital, Russell still continues to make these visits to support children with cancer.

In 2016, Russell became the stepdad to Ciara’s first child and son Future Jr., whom she shares with her ex, Future. Russell understands that loving a woman should include the children she brings with her. Proud to take on the role of a stepdad, Russell quickly formed a bond with his stepson, who was a toddler at the time.

Future was only two years when they met. According to Russell, ‘’the important part about loving somebody especially as a man, being a stepfather in a situation where it’s a little bit different, you know, for sure-but ultimately, it’s about loving the child because the child has the opportunity to do something amazing in his life.’’

In his interview with Buzzfeed, he said,

“the thing that I’ve learned the most is that being a stepdad and then also having our little daughter as well, being a stepdad, you really find out what love’s like.  It’s interesting. It’s easy to love somebody that’s blood and everything else, but when you can love somebody just like it’s your own child and everything else, that’s what real love is like.”

This rings true as stepparenting teaches you about love, acceptance, and understanding. Even though he’s not his biodad, he’s been involved in Future’s life since he was a toddler. In Wilson’s free time, he takes vacations with family.

For Russell and Ciara, it’s all about spending family time together. Even with Russell and Ciara’s tight schedule, the pair understands the importance of family and spends time together with their children in different parts of the world.

Having his family and being present in his stepson’s life is a blessing for Russell. Helping him with football practice, taking him to school, and being a dad to Future, his son and daughter Win and Sienna is something Russell is thankful to Jesus for.
