Four Tips To Reducing Family Stress

Taking care of a family is a full-time job, and it can be very stressful. It’s something that gets not only to parents but to kids as well.

Between work, school and relationships stress can become incredibly intense. If you believe your family is too stressed, the following tips can help.

Take the Time to Keep Your Home Clean

Do you feel tense the moment you walk into your house? A messy home can easily contribute to stress.

Instead of accepting the clutter, you should take action. Arrange a family meeting to discuss the mess.

Don’t pass blame on anyone, as some of the mess might be from you. Give everyone roles to complete and look forward to your cleaned-up house.

Even if your house isn’t too messy, a good cleaning can do wonders for everyone’s attitude.

Encourage Each Family Member to Exercise

A healthy body is a key to reducing stress. When you exercise, you can feel the stress melting out of your body.

It can be running, swimming or playing basketball. Another activity that you should consider is family yoga.

Through yoga, you and your family can increase flexibility and mental stillness. Allow yourself to appreciate the beauty of every moment of exercise.

You can also enjoy some friendly competition with your family, such as playing a simple game of “HORSE” outside with a basketball court. Here are just a few more ideas for family exercise ideas:

  • Participate in a fun run
  • Head to the mountains and go on a hike
  • Go to and adventure course (rope courses, zip lines, and many other activities that test bravery and encourage movement)

Take a Break Together and Go on Vacation

Sometimes it helps to just get away from it all. If you feel like problems are just piling up at home, you and your family should take a vacation.

Schedule it for a place you’ve never been to before. It could be a trip to a big city or a camping excursion.

Be sure to take plenty of photos and explore any sites of interest. When you come home, you can feel positively rejuvenated.

Even when you’re back to the routine, you can still remember the fun of vacation. Try to look at things with a new perspective.

Instead of being bored or stressed by routine, try to appreciate it.

Take Time to Just Laugh

A big sign of stress is a lack of smiles or laughter. Tension can be worn on your faces.

Don’t let yourself forget what it means to feel good. You can do this through multiple ways.

Here are just a few ideas:

  • Have a movie night and watch a comedy
  • Play a board game that everyone loves
  • Put together a few family videos featuring original sketches

You might not realize it, but there are a lot of health benefits to laughing. It lowers blood pressure, reduces stress and even works your abs.

Those three benefits alone should be a reason to make decreasing your family’s stress levels by taking the time to laugh a priority.

Stress is something too many people are willing to accept. They might have gotten so used to it they think it’s just a part of life.

Hopefully, however, the above tips have helped you to realize that it doesn’t have to be that way. By taking the time to apply these tips, your family will be on its way to being a happier unit.
