Skincare is no longer exclusively a woman’s concern. Taking care of your skin is a practice every man should adopt.
If skin care is something you have never actually considered before, here are some tips to help you get started.
Use A Good Cleanser
Use a good face cleanser when you wash. While this might seem like common sense, there are many men who don’t use a separate cleanser for their faces.
A lot of men take showers and use the same body soap on their face. According to dermatologists, using body soap on your face dries your skin which increases the appearance of wrinkles and makes your skin look older.
Though I’m not a fan of Proactiv or similar harsh products I am a fan of cleansers. It’s important you use a gentle cleanser which cleans off dirt and oil without drying the skin.
There are a number of different cleansers on the market you can choose from.
Don’t Use Cheap Razors
Most men will shave at least five times a week and many of them will use a cheap razor. Getting a quality razor is important.
The blade should accommodate the sensitivity of your skin and the coarseness of your beard. Remember, you should consider both the actual razor and the blades as well.
Using multiple blade razors can increase the chances of razor burn and ingrown hairs. This is due to the blades pulling at the hairs below the skin too much.
You should also consider getting a moisturizing shaving gel which provides a good protective layer between your skin and the razor. You should also shave in the shower or just afterward as the hair is softer at this point.
Using aftershave is important because it hydrates and soothes the skin. The aftershave should be alcohol-free because alcohol will dry the skin.
There are many different types of aftershave available. Be careful in selecting the aftershave you will eventually use.
Use A Facial Moisturizer
Daily use of a facial moisturizer is essential for keeping the skin soft and gentle to the touch. The moisturizer should be fragrance-free and so it seems less ‘girly’ to use.
You also need to choose a cream that agrees with your skin sensitivity . Sensitive skin can react badly to normal skin cream.
Always Apply Sunscreen
If you really want your skin to glow you should never leave home without sunscreen on. There are some facial moisturizers that have an SPF (sun protection factor) of 30 or more.
These are good to use. If you’re unable to find these SPF creams then you need to put a little bit of sunscreen on.
If you don’t use sunscreen you increase the risks of sun damage which can result in dryness, redness, skin irritation and in the worst cases skin cancer.
There are a lot of tips men should know when it comes to their skincare. Looking after your skin helps you look younger for longer and could help you beat other skin problems.
Using a good cleanser is the start, but you shouldn’t neglect your shaving routine.
