If you are lucky enough to have a stepfather, you will find there are many reasons to love him.  Here are just a few reasons almost anyone can relate to.  Next time his birthday rolls around, use this list to create a personalize list of why you love him – it’s a great starting point!

1) If you have a stepfather, that means your biological father either passed away or your parents are divorced.  In either case, you stepfather knew he would be entering a family that may have issues.  He chose to make a commitment to your mother and your family regardless, and that deserves respect.

2) You should love your stepfather mainly because he loves your mother. It is hard to be a single parent, and the fact she has found someone to share her life with should be pleasing to her kids. If they make your mother happy, you should be happy too.

3) If your biological father was abusive, love your stepfather for his gentle ways with you, as well as your siblings. Respect the fact he may be gentler with your mother as well.

4) Being a single parent is a very hard job with one child and it multiplies with each child that you have.  If you have a stepfather, know that he has chosen to help take a large burden off of your mother, including finances, stress & time, and those alone are reasons to love and respect him.

6) Everyone has unique skills and interests, including your stepfather. Perhaps he can teach you how to play an instrument, speak a language or how to fish. Regardless, whatever skills he boasts are his own, and no one else can provide that combination from you.

7) If you get scared at night, it’s nice to have someone big and strong to help keep the monsters away.

8) If your mother is too busy to help you with school, it’s likely that your stepfather may be just the one to help you with your assignment and score a really good grade.

9) If you are grown and have a stepfather, it’s nice to know that you have the opportunity to turn that stepfather into a friend. He can easily become someone that you trust and communicate well with. Who knows, he may become your best friend over the years.

10.) A stepfather can take a family that has been broken and fix it, so that everyone is happy again. He can turn a sad mother into a happy mother as well as turn sad or angry children into happy children.

  1. A very nice post! There are now more stepfamilies than first families in the U.S. Children, young adults, and adults have a harder time accepting a stepmother than they do a stepfather. This frequently translates into hostile and rejecting behavior.
