To My Stepson

A privilege I always wanted but never had

To raise up a good man from a young lad

I am getting that chance with you

I want to be one you could look up to

I’m not perfect, but I’m striving to be

Someone in whom a father you see

Already I see in you a boy strong and bright

I’m in awe, and by you, I want to do right

Austin Ryan 001 Stepfather Poetry ~ To My Stepson

Be patient with me while I learn to be a father

We may error, but we’ll learn from each other

I am surely blessed to get to watch you grow

My son, it means more to me than you could know
